Firms and Aggregate Dynamics ∗

چکیده

We investigate the role of permanent and transitory shocks for firms and aggregate dynamics. We find that permanent shocks to productivity and permanent shifts in the composition of output explain at least 4/5 of firms dynamics. However, these permanent shocks are almost uncorrelated across firms, and are therefore less relevant for aggregate dynamics. Transitory shocks, on the other hand, are not very important at the firm level, but they account for most of the volatility of aggregate hours and output, because they are significantly correlated across firms. Finally, we try to make some progress on the interpretation of the shocks.

Threshold Effects in Sticky Information Philips Curve: Evidence from Iran

During the last decade, several studies have argued that sticky information model proposed by Mankiw and Reis (2002), in which firms update their information occasionally rather than instantaneously, explains some stylized facts about the inflation dynamics. Sticky information pricing model successfully captures the sluggish movement of aggregate prices in response to monetary policy shocks. De...

Essays in Financial Economics

This dissertation consist of three essays. In the first essay, I examine optimal dynamic contracting between risk-averse investors and firm insiders in a dynamic general-equilibrium model with heterogeneous firms. The equilibrium optimal contract features a higher rate of inefficient liquidations in aggregate states with low productivity and a reward-for-luck policy in high productivity states....

Bank lending and firm dynamics in general equilibrium

This paper investigates the impact of a change in aggregate credit supply on firm dynamics in an economy with financial frictions. We model a lifetime lending relationship between banks and firms in a general equilibrium framework with households making endogenous occupational decision. Financial markets are endogenously incomplete due to asymmetric information, and financial constraints emerge...

Fluctuations in Uncertainty, Efficient Borrowing Constraints and Firm Dynamics∗

This paper quantifies the importance of aggregate fluctuations in microeconomic uncertainty for firm dynamics over the business cycle in an economy with endogenously frictional financial markets. To begin, I provide evidence on asymmetric response across age and size groups of firms in the U.S. to the changes in aggregate economic conditions. I argue that age rather than size is a relevant marg...
